Pride Month Activities
Annual Parade Kicks Off in Uptown

Lunar New Year on Argyle Street
Business Promotion
To honor the late winter-early spring New Year holidays celebrated by the Asian businesses and customers of the Argyle Street area, Uptown SSA#34 funded new streetpole banners designed to match the recently installed "Asia on Argyle" identifier spanning the street. The banners incorporate symbols more recognizable to non-Asians such as the lion and zodiac snake. They also incorporate more traditional Asian new year imagery (flowers, firecrackers, and thrown water) as well as greetings in Chinese, Vietamese, Thai, Cambodian, Lao, and Burmese -- all languages used around Argyle.
As part of the annual Hip Sing Association's Lunar New Year Parade, Uptown United and Business Partners - The Chamber for Uptown walked the parade route with 48th Ward Alderman Harry Osterman and 46th Ward Alderman James Cappleman distributing red envelopes -- a traditional gift giving method -- full of discount coupons for Argyle area businesses.
