Uptown is regarded as one of the most architecturally rich communities in Chicago, and is home to four National Historic Districts
- Buena Park Historic District
- Sheridan Park Historic District
- Uptown Square Historic District
- West Argyle Street Historical District
You may view the National Historic District nominations for these districts by searching under those specific titles. Each nomination contains boundaries for all districts as well as detailed descriptions and histories of all the buildings that are considered Historic District Contributors (contributing structures) by the State agency. This process is administered by the State of Illinois on behalf of the Federal Government. Contributing structures are eligible to receive Historic District tax credits for rehabilitation work done in accordance with specifications designated by the Department of the Interior, National Park Service. To find out more about this process and its benefits, please search under Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives.
